STOP Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion...Expansion (TMXX!)


We're back!!!! ... because the pipeline expansion is being expanded again!

In 2018, the Alberta and federal governments estimated that the Trans Mountain Expansion (TMX) would cost Canadian taxpayers $7 billion. Now in 2026 Canadians are stuck with a TMX bill of $34 billion. Are any Canadians any better off for it? Are you?

Expanding TMX --TMXX!-- will  have a further cost of $35.2 to $43.7 billion. Is Alberta's separatist government blackmailing the federal government into committing billions of our dollars into more dead-end fossil fuel infrastructure? Without any environmental review or public cost-benefit analysis and without letting Canadians have a real say in the decision?

Again, another big infrastructure project designed to concentrate wealth and fill the pockets of often foreign corporations while Canadians lose their homes to rising costs, oil spills, and fires. (See this 2021 assessment of foreign control of Canadian oil and gas.)  

We have until September 18th to let our government know TMXX is not in the taxpayers' interest, not in the interest of the environment, not in the interest of mitigating climate collapse. Submit a letter of protest through this FORM or directly HERE.

We mobilize to put fires out, but not to prevent them?

Seth Klein explains: And, of course, governments that truly understand the wartime scale of what we confront, do not add fuel to the fire by approving new fossil fuel projects. To do so in the year 2026 is a willful act of arson. As UN Secretary-General António Guterres – a leader who does indeed get the emergency – stated on the release last week [July 21 2026] of the latest report from the World Meteorological Organization: 

"Fossil fuels are fanning the flames of this crisis. Expansion must stop. More coal, oil and gas will lead to a more combustible future. Unless we act – to protect people and tackle the root cause of the crisis – the dangers will become deadlier still."

Same route, more destruction. 

British Columbia has become an industrial sacrifice zone that threatens people and wildlife. TMXX tankers will destroy the Roberts Bank Wildlife Area, adjacent to the Tswassen Ferry Terminal. Dredging Burrard Inlet for more and larger tankers will destroy years of Tsleil-Waututh Nation's envronmental remediation. The two proposed Vancouver AI data centres will suck energy and water out of a city regularly in stage 3 drought conditions. Any provincial electricity not commandeered by data centers will be used by Kitimat, Tilbury, and Woodfiber LNG terminals -- already sources of noise and air pollution.  

Time to shut down these sacrifice zones and stop these pipelines of Canadian taxpayer money going to foreign interests.
